11 Aug Unsolved AMT Mysteries: A Day in the Life of…
As part of our “Unsolved AMT Mysteries” Series, we are taking a peek into the daily lives of some of our employees to get a better idea of what their role really entails. Today our featured employee is Chad Martin (aka Chip), Carrier Manager.
How long have you been in your current position?
1 year and 2 months
What is the first thing you do when you get here in the morning?
Check emails and make sure loads are on track for the day.
When people ask you what AM Transport is or what we do, what do you tell them?
We help solve shipping needs for customers. If a company needs to have something shipped, we arrange transportation with reliable carriers that we have built relationships with.
What are your customers/carriers like personality-wise? How do your conversations typically go?
The carriers/ customers I communicate with multiple times a week are always friendly. A few like to make jokes, talk about weekend plans. Sometimes they have their own funny nicknames that they go by or we entertain ourselves (as a team) by creating what we call “Bro-isms” and those are always fun to read and come up with. Ex: Brotato Chip, Yadier Brolina, Han Brolo.
What is the makeup of your team/ dynamics? How do you communicate?
Team Phoenix is made up of 2 account managers and 6 carrier managers. We communicate a lot through verbal communication and slack (instant messaging), and also through emails.
***Team Phoenix on National Selfie Day:
Are there times you work independently?
There are times where I have worked on building capacity in specific lanes. This involves putting aside some time to talk to carriers, seeing where they like to go, if there’s anywhere they are struggling getting out of and trying to see if there’s any way we can match a customer’s needs with theirs.
Chad in action:
What keeps you motivated to come to work each day?
Knowing that when I’m going to work I’ll be surrounded by great people who always have a positive attitude and that enjoy working together.
What advice would you give someone who is seeking the same line of work?
My advice would be to ask questions when you can. There’s a lot of knowledge to gain through others.
What is the most challenging part of this job?
There’s a lot of multitasking at points throughout the day. It can be a very fast work environment at times.
Funniest story since working here?
At the golf outing last year, Old E “Coach” went wading through the water just to get his ball. I admired the effort. I also took a turn a little too sharp in the golf cart for Heath and he fell out the side, but he stuck the landing. It was impressive.
What do you do when you get home from work?
First thing I do is go check on my dog and then I go to the gym and get a quick workout in.
***Since Chip does not have a SINGLE picture of his dog, here is what his dog might look like:
How do you spend time on the weekends?
On the weekends I’m always with friends. I typically like to travel out of town to go do something, but if I stick around, my friends and I are always together.
Favorite AMT music day- Country, 80’s, 90’s, or the rap station?
Definitely rap. AKA Chip Radio.
